Puppy Linux ist eine kleine aber feine Mini Linux Distribution mit grafischer Oberfläche und vielen Anwendungsprogrammen.
Trotzdem ist die Distribution nur ca. 50-60MB 'groß'. Author ist Barry Kauler.

Puppy Linux enthält alle nötigen Programme für Internetnutzung (Webbrowser, E-Mail Programm, Chat, FTP, etc.), Office-Anwendungen (Wordprogramm, Tabellenkalkulation, Zeichenprogramm) und vieles Andere (Multimedia-Abspielprogramm (DVD, MP3, OGG, etc), Internet-Radio+TV)...

Puppy Linux ist in erster Linie eine Live-CD, welche Einstellungen und Erweiterungen etc. in einer Datei 'pup001' ablegt. Puppy Linux kann aber auch auf der Festplatte, USB Stick etc.installiert werden.

Es muß gesagt werden, das ich persönlich Puppy als meine Lieblingsdistribution ansehe. Allerdings ist die Unterstützung anderer Landessprachen noch nicht ausreichend vorhanden. Hier ist z.B Damnsmalllinux (DSL) schon weiter.

Puppy Linux ist aufgrund der moderaten Hardwareanforderungen (P2; 64MB; CD-LW; Vesa-Grafikkarte) auch und gerade - aber nicht nur
- für ältere Systeme geeignet. Ich selbst habe Puppy Linux auf mehr als 20 PC's am laufen gehabt, darunter auch z.B. Compaq Ipaq
Mini-PC's (Cel. 500MHz, 128MB, CD, 4GB HDD, i810 Graka).

Auf den offiziellen Supportseiten Puppy Wiki und Puppy Forum gibts sehr viele interessante Informationen und viele weitere Addons.

Siehe auch pupweb.org. Ich habe diese Live-CD auch verwendet, um N2200 Linux auf den IBM 8363 ThinClients (auf eine CF-Card) zu installieren.
