An Macs mit Intel-Prozessoren wird gearbeitet, diese sollen 2007 erscheinen. IBM hat die 3Ghz-Marke verfehlt und es nicht geschafft, einen PowerBook-Prozessor herzustellen. Seit 5 Jahren wird alles Cross-Plattform entwickelt. Apple zeigt gerade ein Intel-Basiertes System, auf dem bereits alle Funktionen von OS X laufen. Apple gibt an, dies sei der nächste große Übergang. Erst stieg man von 68k zum PPC um, dann von OS 9 auf OS X, jetzt geht man hin zu Intel-basierten Macs. Man möchte die besten Computer für die Kunden machen, daher wechsle man den Prozessorhersteller. Zukünftige Projekte können nicht IBM-basiert sein, Intel biete bessere Leistung. FŸr den Übergang sind zwei Jahre geplant

Beide Prozessoren werden langfristig unterstützt. Der Core für beide werden universelle binaries sein. Die Entwickler applaudieren.

Theo Grey von Wolfram Research (Mathematica) arbeitet für Apple an den Intel-Projekten. Theo scherzt, er bekomme immer die verrücktesten Anrufe von Apple...

Er hat - so sagt er - Mathematica in zwei Stunden auf Intel portiert. Es waren 20 Zeilen zu ändern. Mathematica für Intel wird demonstriert.
