Q. Are these swords good for live steel fighting?

Angus Trim Swords are indeed engineered for actual use. There are many swords that make this claim, but the goal of AT swords are to make swords of their specific historical function. The needs of the battlefield differ from the needs of today's entertainment stage, theatre, or recreation.

The answer is a pre-qualified "yes". However, it is important to pair up appropriate swords. Something that is optimized for cutting (e.g. our MS1503 Seneschal) may not be as stiff or ridid as a sword that is optimized for thrusting (e.g. our MS1502 Banneret. Neither sword is in danger of breaking or cracking due to extremely careful and thermal industrial grade thermal treatment. But each will perform differently due to design (sectional geometry, blade thickness, blade profile taper, thickness distal taper, etc.) It is important to bear these in mind before making an investment in an Angus Trim sword. Our patrons do include those who study historical swords and know the specifics of what sword type is optimized for what function. However, we are more than happy to discuss your needs with you.

For those who need a lighter class of sword that favors cutting, the MS1503 Seneschal and MS1504 Marshal will do quite well. Those needing an all-round light and fast sword will enjoy the MS1501 English Knightly Sword. Those interested in having a stiffer and substantial blade for blade-on-blade martial arts practice but without the associated weight will enjoy the MS1502 Banneret. We will add to our product line in the near future to address a greater dimension of needs.

If your interest is in some light "live steel" practice, we recommend blunted edges (as well as wearing protective safety gear) for safety.
