Bereits die Römer kannten die Strahlungsheizung in der Form der Hypokaustheizung: Heißluftheizung, die in Hohlräumen unter dem Boden und hinter der Wand der Räume entlang streicht und den Raum - häufig das Bad - von allen Seiten beheizt. Die übertemperierten Wände strahlen die Wärme in den kalten Raum. Befeuert wurde die Anlage mit einem offenen Feuer von außen.

Nun da ein offenes Feuer schwer zu kontrollieren und nur mit relativ grossem Aufwand zu unterhalten ist, hat man die mit grossem Erfolg eingesetzte Infrarot-Heiztechnik, aus der Raumfahrt der MIR (Frieden) der ehemaligen UDSSR, genommen und als Flachheizkörper, an Wand und Decke eingesetzt.

Die Anforderungen an die Heizung der MIR waren;
1. Sie musste robust sein und zuverlässig funktionieren!
2. Sie musste leicht sein (jedes Gramm zuviel kostet ein Vermögen, um
dieses in den Weltraum zu befördern.
3. Der Energieverbrauch musste so gering wie möglich gehalten werden, da die Stromversorgung grösstenteils mit Photovoltaik-Solar-Segel erzeugt worden ist.

Diese Anforderungen hat das Infrarot-Heizsystem zuverlässig und effizient erfüllt! Leider wurde die „MIR“ im Atlantik versenkt, so dass man nicht weiss, wie viele Jahre dieses Heizsystem, störungsfrei seinen Dienst verrichtet hätte. Volle 17 Jahre ohne Tests hat die Anlage anstandslos funktioniert.

Wir haben Tests bei -32°C durchgeführt und ebensolch verblüffende Ergebnisse erhalten, wie die höchstgelegene und von uns gebaute Anlage im Wallis (CH), auf 2'300 m.ü. Meer, anstands- und tadellos funktioniert!
Wie Eingangs erwähnt – die Infrarotheizung ist keine Erfindung der jüngsten Zeit.
