Ich kann mich erinnern dass ich vor 2 Jahren mal irgenwo gelesen habe dass man von der fotorealistische Grafik in Spielen nicht mehr weit entfernt ist. (im Beitrag stand 3-4 Jahren). Nun muß ich aber feststellen dass man vom Fotorealismus sogar in der neuen Unreal 3 Engine noch weit entfernt ist. Und die Engine ist noch nicht mal annähernd fertig !

Aber irgenwie kann man den Readakteuren des Berichtes keine Schuld geben. Denn vor zig Jahren hab ich noch auf meinen 386 (33mhz) pc comanche gespielt. Und die Grafik war echt supa. Wenn mich da einer gefragt hätte ob ein 100 mal schnellerer Computer Fotorealismuß schafft hätte ich ohne weiteres zugestimmt. Heute wissen wir dass ein 100mal schnellerer Computer bei weitem nicht ausreicht auch wenn er von einer Monstermäßigen Grafikkarte unterstützt wird die dem Prozessor an Leistung nichts nachsteht.

Woran liegs? Resourcenverschwendende Software oder ist die Hardware wirklich noch nicht so weit?

Ich weiss ja nicht wie alt Du bist, aber dass es PC´s seit ca. 50 Jahren gibt (also seit 1955, deiner Zeitrechnung nach) ist schon etwas daneben gegriffen.

Für Dich eine kleine Führung durch die Geschichte:
IBM
Der Marktführer bei Großrechnern stellte 1954 den ersten Taschenrechner vor und stieg 1981 in die Produktion von Kleincomputern ein. Der IBM-PC wurde zum Industriestandard. (erster PC: 3.000 $, 64 KB RAM, ein 5,25" Diskettenlaufwerk, Prozessor 8088 von Intel, Betriebssystem MS-DOS von Microsoft)

Also 1954 - Taschenrechner und kein PC
und 1981 um "läppische" 3000 Dollar einen PC (wo selbst IBM meinte, dass sich der NIE verkaufen liese)
Jetzt hol mal schnell den Taschenrechner und sag mir, seit wann es PCs gibt

So jetzt haben wir einen ERSTEN PC, der vor 24 Jahren gebaut wurde.
Dass Problem ist, dass dieser auf DOS basierte (DOS = schwarzer Bildschirm mit einem "c:\" drauf. Ja so hat man früher gearbeitet. Eine Grafische Oberfläche gabs noch nicht!
Die verbreitetste grafische Oberfläche gibts erst seit 1980:

"Rechner" gabs aber auch schon etwas früher. Die hat nämlich Herr Zuse gebaut:
