For a large range of practically useful cases, MIT researchers find a way to increase the speed of one of the most important algorithms in the information sciences.

The Fourier transform is one of the most fundamental concepts in the information sciences. It’s a method for representing an irregular signal — such as the voltage fluctuations in the wire that connects an MP3 player to a loudspeaker — as a combination of pure frequencies. It’s universal in signal processing, but it can also be used to compress image and audio files, solve differential equations and price stock options, among other things.

Broadband audio denoisers are based in speech processing, most of them not suitable for music type files. Speech processing type estimates broadband noise during speech pause periods, or apply noise measure to whole file without changes in it's estimation. Music needs another type of noise estimation, an this application does this. New algorithm is implemented for noise estimation, and an Ephraim-Malah log-MMSE is used instead conventional spectral subtraction rule, resulting in more musical noise reduction. Presented application provides good quality with high noise reduction, easy manage,
using Fast Fourier Transform (using FFTW library):
- Music noise reduction

- WAV, OGG, MP3, WMA audio supported
- Audio and noise spectrum visualization while file is being played
- Added control to improve high frequency harmonics
- Now the FFT is computed via FFTW library to improve performance

Die Fourier-Transformation (genauer die kontinuierliche Fourier-Transformation; Aussprache des Namens: fur'je) ist eine Methode der Fourier-Analysis, die es erlaubt, kontinuierliche, aperiodische Signale in ein kontinuierliches Spektrum zu zerlegen. Die Funktion, die dieses Spektrum beschreibt, nennt man auch Fourier-Transformierte oder Spektralfunktion. Diese Integraltransformation ist benannt nach dem Mathematiker Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier, der im Jahr 1822 die Fourier-Reihen einführte, ein Analogon der kontinuierlichen Fourier-Transformation für periodische Signale.

Die Basisfunktionen der Fourierreihe bilden ein bekanntes Beispiel für eine Orthonormalbasis. Im Rahmen der Theorie der Hilberträume werden auch Entwicklungen nach einem beliebigen vollständigen Orthonormalsystem als Fourierreihe bezeichnet.
